Welcome to Oconee Civitan!

The Oconee County Civitan Club is still in the developmental stages.  Only a few more members are needed before we can submit our charter request.  Thanks to the Winterville Civitans for helping Oconee get started.  If you are interested in becoming a member of the Oconee County Civitan Club, please attend one of our scheduled meetings held at the Watkinsville Community Center each 2nd & 4th Wednesday at 12 Noon.

Civitans are everyday citizens who come together in communities around the world to socialize, learn and serve their neighbors. Civitan has grown to over 40,000 members in 25 countries, including youth and college programs. On an international level, Civitan is devoted to improving the lives of children and adults with developmental disabilities. Civitan's flagship program is the UAB Civitan International Research Center,  dedicated to research of developmental disabilities.

My Hands do the work of the world and reach out in service to others. My Ears hear the cry of children and the call throughout the world for peace, guidance, progress, and unity. My Eyes search for others to join in the fellowship and service of Civitan. My Mouth utters the call to daily duty and speaks prayers in every tongue. My Mind teaches me respect for law and the flag of my country. My Heart beats for every friend, bleeds for every injury to humanity, and throbs with joy at every triumph of truth. My Soul knows no fear but its own unworthiness. My Hope is for a better world through Civitan. My Motto: Builders of Good Citizenship My Belief: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. My Pledge :To practice the Golden Rule and build upon it a better and nobler citizenship.

WHAT IS CIVITAN? Civitan is a worldwide, all volunteer service organization where men and women have an organized way of approaching local community problems through service and fund raising. We emphasize serving people with developmental disabilities. Local clubs are supported by Civitan International, which was organized in 1917 and spans over 22 countries. The word CIVITAN is a coined word that comes from the Latin word “CIVITAS”, which means CITIZENSHIP.
